Undergraduate : Urgent and Important: Industrial Training at Multi-National Companies and Referral Letter
Posted by amiza on 2016/5/27 6:20:00 (1 reads)

Dear students,

Industrial Training at Multi-National Companies/Corporation (MNC)
For students going for Industrial Training in Sem 1 2016/2017, you DO NOT HAVE to email the proof that you had applied to at least 3 MNCs prior to applying to non-MNCs, in order for the Department Industrial Training Coordinator to consider to approve an offer from non-MNC.

Nevertheless, students are strongly encouraged to undergo their industrial training at MNC.

Referral Letter
This is a reminder.
Please make sure that you attach the referral letter from your Department Industrial Training Coordinator, to your application when you apply to a company. This is to ensure that the company knows that it has to state the start and end dates, the tasks in general to be assigned to the student and department to be attached, in the offer letter. Without this information, the coordinator is not able to approve the placement.

I found out from some companies that some students thought that the referral letter is the approval letter from the faculty and some students did not fill in their details in the referral letter when they submit it to the company. I had explained about the referral letter during my briefing, and if you just read through the referral letter, you will also figure out that it is not the approval letter and you have to fill in your details. Please be more diligent in this and don't give a bad impression of yourself to the company.

You also have to specify the date you can start your training and the date you will end your training in the referral letter. The earliest you can start is 1st Aug, minimum duration is 24 weeks, one or two weeks additional is acceptable but not more than that, and you must end before the start of Sem 2 2016/2017. I had taught you how to count the number of weeks during the briefing. If you are still not sure, check with your friends who attended the briefing.

Make sure that the company states the start and end dates in the offer letter. If the tasks and the department to be placed are not stated in the offer letter, please contact the company to request to include them in the offer letter, or inform the company that it (and not the student) can send them by email to the Department Industrial Training Coordinator together with the offer letter.

Your cooperation in following the procedure will help to speed up the approval of placements for the entire batch of students and we highly appreciate that.

Thank you.

best regards,
Dr. Su Moon Ting

Undergraduate : Urgent and Important: Industrial Training - Change of Coordinator, and Internship at Multi-national Companies
Posted by amiza on 2016/5/24 6:28:41 (7 reads)

Dear students,

Please take note of the following changes to Industrial Training. These change take effect from today onward.

1) Department Industrial Training Coordinator
The faculty has appointed an Industrial Training Coordinator for each department. A Department Industrial Training Coordinator is in-charge of industrial training for the students from the respective department. This includes approving the industrial training placements for the students from the respective department and assigning faculty supervisors to the students.

Starting from today onward, you have to email your offer letter to your Department Industrial Training Coordinator to get his/her approval. Please state your name, student registration number, and your degree and specialization (for. e.g. BCS (Artificial Intelligence), BIT (Multimedia), etc).

The department coordinators are as below:

a. Bachelor of Computer Science (Computer System and Network) – Mr. Emran Mohd Tamil
b. Bachelor of Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) – Dr. Aznul Qalid Md Sabri
c. Bachelor of Computer Science (Software Engineering) – Dr. Su Moon Ting
d. Bachelor of Computer Science (Information Systems and Management) – Dr. Nordiana Ahmad Kharman Shah
e. Bachelor of Information Technology (Management) – Dr. Nordiana Ahmad Kharman Shah
f. Bachelor of Information Technology (Multimedia) – Dr. Mohamad Nizam Ayub
g. Bachelor of Islamic Studies and Information Technology – Dr. Su Moon Ting
*Note: Dr. Su Moon Ting is the head of the Industrial Training Committee.

For students who are going for industrial training in Sem 1 2016/2017, if your industrial training placements have been approved by Dr. Su Moon Ting, please forward the respective email to your Department Industrial Training Coordinator for his/her record. This is important for him/her to assign a faculty supervisor to you later on.

2) New Referral Letter
Starting from today onward, when you apply to a company to do your industrial training, you have to attach the referral letter from your Department Industrial Training Coordinator. Do not use the previous referral letter signed by Dr. Su anymore. This is to ensure that the company will send your offer letter to your Department Industrial Training Coordinator for approval.

The new referral letter can be obtained from Mrs. Faridah at General Office, FSKTM.

3) Industrial Training at Multi-national companies (MNC).
To get good exposure to corporate working environment, students are strongly encouraged to undergo their industrial training at multi-national companies/corporation (MNC).
The Department Industrial Training Coordinator will only approve a student's offer from a company if the student emails the proof that the company is a MNC together with the offer letter. In the event that a student cannot get an industrial training offer from a MNC, the student can apply to non-MNCs. However, the student has to email the proof that he/she had applied to at least 3 MNCs prior to applying the non-MNCs, in order for the coordinator to consider to approve an offer from the non-MNC.

This is applicable to all students going for industrial training in Sem 1 2016/2017 and onward. If you have an offer from non-MNC which had been approved by Dr. Su, you can proceed with that offer, but if you can find an offer from MNC, that will be even better.

Note: "A multinational corporation (MNC) is a corporation that has its facilities and other assets in at least one country other than its home country" (source: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/multinationalcorporation.asp).

Thank you for your attention and cooperation in the above matters.

best regards,
Dr. Su Moon Ting
